Type B evaluations

Type B evaluation generally uses data from different sources than those used for Type A evaluation (although there may be some cross over using historical data). The sources of information for Type B evaluations encountered in pathology mainly include:

  • Manufacturer specifications
  • Calibration certificates
  • Kit inserts

Unlike Type A evaluation, Type B can be used to account for all error including systematic error. It is important to include an assessment of the probability distribution that best describes each Type B uncertainty to allow complete calculation in the uncertainty budget.
